COVID-19 (AKA Coronavirus) has consumed the world!
Whatever shall we do?
Our daily ‘Nearly Never Normal’ life has become the reality of many in the midst of this pandemic viral outbreak.
Hard working parents all of the sudden are challenged with educating their children at home. Many are still having to put in the grind of an 8 hour day while keeping the proper etiquette of ‘social distancing.’
Public schools are closed and the charge has been placed on the parents.
The fact of this is that the children (if old enough to be left alone at home) will have to meander through ‘home school’ on their own, wait to be aided by their parents (or parent) in the evenings, or simply won’t do anything at all. Some are able to take advantage of state ‘Virtual School’ programs but are finding this difficult as the curriculums are different and picking up mid semester is not that easy.
Sometimes when we are placed outside of our comfort zone and forced to perform a task, we may actually address it better than if it were not out of necessity.
We have been home schooling for 10+ years and will freely admit that we are still learning and reforming. That NEVER stops! There are things we were doing 2 years ago that worked then but aren’t working now. You learn to adapt and pivot on the fly. It is necessity and WILL occur! In fact as I am writing this, our children are in unison screaming at us to ‘help me with my work!’
The trick is always adapting to make it efficient for the children. Let’s face it, if our children are not adequately being educated (whether in the public school system or at home) then our overall task is futile.
Know that the Lord has given you that beautiful child (or children) and we are charged to ‘bring them up in the way they should go.’ (Proverbs 22:6)
