Joseph Smith Jr.'s Lies #1

Joseph Smith Jr. And Mormonism: A Lie From The Beginning

Joseph Smith Jr.’s Lies

Joseph Smith Jr. founded Mormonism (AKA The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). The church was incorporated in 1830 on the basis of many fabrications. Modern day technology and the invention of the internet has been a massive exposure of Mormonism.

Joseph Smith Jr.’s lies cannot be contained.

Joseph Smith Jr. has been one of the most charismatic fixtures in American history. Although it has been done by several others, the creation of an entire new religion was a success by the farm boy from Palmyra, New York.

This is the first installment of several columns on Mormonism. I will be exposing the numerous lies that the Mormon church has been teaching for 190 years. There are so many that even I will not come near to exhausting all of them. However, just highlighting a few should be eye opening.

The First Lie

It started when Smith was a young lad of age 14, 15, or 16 (his differing accounts should make anyone pause), was visited by God the Father, or Jesus Christ, or both. This is what has come to be known as the ‘First Vision.’

The fabrications began from the outset. When pressed on his age and who it was that supposedly visited him, he could never recall what age he was or who it was that actually visited him. Over time he gave multiple different answers.

To this day there is no consensus on the actual year Joseph Smith Jr. was supposedly visited by the entities. All anyone can say is that it had to be in the early 1820’s when Smith was still a teenager.

The discrepancies regarding the ‘First Vision’ are but subtle lies in the grand scheme. They get much more grandiose as time passed. However, the fabrications were easily suppressed. This was not the time frame of the Information age. There was no internet, cell phones, text messaging, and what was put in print was not well circulated. This made it very easy for Joseph Smith Jr. to quickly change up and tell different stories based on whom it was he was addressing at the time.

Selling Religion

Joseph Smith Jr. was not selling cars. He was selling religion. And he was the self proclaimed new ‘prophet’ of God. A 19th century prophet called to restore the church that had faded away in darkness. The church had been dead since the first century according to Smith.

He was able to manipulate many individuals. Both professing and non-professing Christians would come to buy into this idea of a ‘restored’ gospel. And in hindsight would be considered a success. But the ‘success’ obtained is in the eye of the beholder.

Book Of Mormon

The entire basis for the Mormon religion stands or falls on the validity of the Book of Mormon. There is a numerous amount of error wrapped in the Book of Mormon. From the origin and translation to the plagiarism from the King James Bible to unproven Geography and historicity of the accounts in the book.

The Book of Mormon claims to be a written history of the Western World of North and South America. The book claims that Israelites fled to the America’s on boats and settled the lands. They became great peoples with different groups battling for position and power. Groups like the Jaredites and Nephites existed. A battle of good and evil played out until they were all essentially wiped out less a few chosen souls.

The book also proclaims that Jesus appeared to the Nephites preaching the good news just as he had done in the Middle East. The groups many of us know as the Native American Indians were who Joseph Smith Jr. claimed were parts of the lost tribes of Israel that had made the journey to the West from Jerusalem.

This was not that difficult of a sell to many uneducated people in early 19th century America. But in time, history, archeology, geography, and ancient literature has turned out to be a significant nemesis to the bold claims of Joseph Smith Jr.

I will be highlighting some of the major issues with the ‘validity’ of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (AKA ‘The Mormons’).
