The third book in the ‘Science For Kids’ series from ICR (Institute for Creation Research) is ‘Animals By Design’. This is another excellent work from a stellar organization that focuses on the Gospel of Jesus Christ and maintaining Biblical accuracy in its teachings.
The first two books in the series that we reviewed were ‘Dinosaurs: God’s Mysterious Creatures’ and Space: God’s Majestic Handiwork. This wonderful kids text follows the others by answering questions like “Why do lions have different manes?, How can the basilisk lizard walk on water?, and Could two of every kind of animal really fit on the ark?” It provides solid scientific and Biblical answers to parents and their children rather than propogating the commonly used secular lie of evolution.
Common Design
This book helps us to understand the idea that different species and creatures do have similar features such as feet, ears, eyes, heart, liver, etc. However this does not prove evolution as fact but leads us to a better and more appropriate understanding that we all have a common designer. Humans may have similar features to chimps, but in no way are we the same ‘kind.’
Content
The text does an excellent job of stating that humans are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:26). This is a major distinction from us and animals. It then walks the readers/students through particular types or kinds of animals giving particular details and a Biblical fact about each one. For instance a Zorse is a mixture of a zebra and a horse. Both are members of the horse ‘kind.’ Animals can only produce and breed after their own ‘kind.’ Animals were originally created good just like everything else (Genesis 1:25).
It also gives a wonderful explanation of how God was able to place all of those animals on the ark. The Biblical and simple explanation is that 2 of every kind, not every species, were brought on the ark. What about those gigantic dinosaurs like T-rex being herded onto the ark? Well, even a T-rex was once small!
The Gospel
As with each book in the series, ICR does a superb job with sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ! Will animals also be in heaven with us one day? Absolutely! The Bible is clear on that!
Excellent Curriculum Choice
It is common for public education to proselytize ‘theories’ on our children as fact. ICR gets it right in this children’s book that would be a great addition to any home school curriculum.
